FOUNDERS AND TRUSTEES

THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES

The Winder Foundation is a charitable trust registered with the New Zealand Charities Commission (CC32346). We work under the stewardship of a Board of Trustees and a global Support Council. We are committed to working in partnership with young people and families to bring about resilience, strength and harmony in our homes, schools, communities and nations.

Each of us comes to the Foundation with common values, principles and multiple talents that coalesce around questions that can be addressed only from the perspective of several disciplines. Problems of social injustice, ecological sustainability, peace and the impact of the global crisis on young people and families in local communities require scientific as well as political, economic, cultural and ethical understanding. It is our intention to fully explore the relationships among these issues with the young people and families who partner with us in this work. Collectively, we can bring forward new solutions.

FOUNDERS

Winder Foundation founders are long-time educators, social entrepreneurs and international advisers. They have been engaged in creative learning and leadership initiatives for many years, and have inspired education and business communities alike. They were first to bring a year-long, whole-boy, learning-leadership program for young men in New Zealand schools. Their creative vision encompasses personal, organizational and global transformation through pioneering, interdisciplinary and multicultural approaches to sustainable development and social change.

Diane Hendrickson Winder

DIANE HENDRICKSON WINDER, FOUNDER.

DEDICATED TO GLOBAL LEADERSHIP AND LEARNING. PASSIONATE ABOUT YOUNG PEOPLE, PLANET AND PEACE.

Born in the Connecticut River Valley in the US, Diane is a biologist, writer and lecturer who has served leaders in corporate and educational organizations for over three decades. She is widely respected for her work in multidisciplinary fields from science and sustainability, to human rights and healthcare, and spirituality and social change. Deeply influenced by world cultures and wisdom traditions, she writes, teaches and speaks about how we might communicate in ways that restore balance, harmony and wholeness. Diane is co-founder and designer of The B-Cool Program for Boys and senior supervisor of coaching for Full Circle Family Coaching. She earned a BSci (hons) in Biology and a post graduate diploma in Microbiology and Clinical Science. She is the author of several hundred publications. Diane is a great aunt with family across the United States.

Jon Winder

JON WINDER, FOUNDER.

DEDICATED TO GLOBAL LEADERSHIP AND LEARNING. PASSIONATE ABOUT YOUNG PEOPLE, PLANET AND PEACE.

Born in New Zealand, Jon has supported educational and business communities for over 40 years. Described as “the boy whisperer”, Jon is widely respected for his work with young men. He helps them make lasting change and build the emotional resiliency needed to become good learners and leaders. Jon is co-founder and facilitator of The B-Cool Program for Boys and principal coach and counselor for Full Circle Family Coaching. He is a graduate of Nelson College, Canterbury University, and earned an MA (hons) from Auckland University and a post graduate diploma in Educational Technology from Massey University. Jon is a sought-after speaker and the author of Exam Success and Learning Success, now in its second publication. He is a grandfather of four children.

TRUSTEES

John Hinchcliff

JOHN HINCHCLIFF, PH.D., NZOM, PATRON, TRUSTEE.

PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHER. DEEPLY PRINCIPLED. PASSIONATE ADVOCATE OF PEOPLE AND PLANET.

Born in New Zealand, John served 20 years as president and vice chancellor of Auckland University of Technology. Under John’s guidance, AUT has been the only university in New Zealand to have successfully transitioned from polytechnic to university status. With an education and teaching career in philosophy and religion in the USA, Australia and New Zealand, John has had a lifelong engagement with the peace movement, futures study, ecology, politics and ethical issues and has spoken on these issues in 24 countries. John is the author of Values Integrating Education and a historical novel, Parihaka. His biography, We Are Therefore I Am, (2003), was written by Jade Reidy.

Lisa Er

LISA ER, TRUSTEE.

COMMUNITY AND NETWORK ADVISOR.

An entrepreneur and sustainability advocate, Lisa has a strong business background and believes in ‘doing well while doing good’. She founded Lisa’s Middle Eastern Foods (Lisa’s Hummus), a well-known New Zealand business, and grew it from a home kitchen business to a substantial company before selling it to Sanitarium. Lisa was one of the first entrepreneurs in NZ to practice the principles of sustainability and employed a diverse multicultural staff from nine nations. She has supported the Winder Foundation for many years in community networking and advocacy. The mother of three adult sons, she is passionately interested in people, the planet and peace. Born in England, she has lived in New Zealand for more than 30 years.
